Benefits and Drawbacks: If you want to pay for a home improvement project but you need some time to pay your balance off, this card should be towards the top of your list. As a cardholder, you’ll receive 0% introductory APR for 15 months from account opening on purchases and balance transfers, then a variable APR of 20.49% – 29.24% applies. An intro transfer fee of either $5 or 3% of the amount of each transfer, whichever is greater, applies in the first 60 days of account opening. After that, a fee of either $5 or 5% of the amount of each transfer applies.
That gives you more than a year to pay off home improvement supplies you charge to your card, which can be helpful if you want to avoid a situation where interest payments are ballooning the total cost of your project.
You’ll also earn an additional 1.5% cash back on up to $20,000 spent in the first year, worth up to $300 cash back as a new cardholder, which should be rewarding with your home improvement project underway. In addition, a base earning rate of 1.5% back will be awarded for each dollar you spend. There’s $0 annual fee to carry this card, and you can redeem your rewards for cash back, statement credits, gift cards, travel, merchandise and more.
